LISBON FALLS, Maine — Since selling a pair of unworn 19th century Levis blue jeans for almost $100,000, Daniel Buck Auctions has been contacted by people from coast to coast asking for assistance in selling their antique and vintage Levis.
In the firm’s April 13 auction, Daniel Buck Auctions will be offering almost a dozen lots of vintage denim, in the form of Levis and Lee jean pants and jackets.
The offerings include a very early 20th century pair of children’s overalls, a pair of 501 Levis from the 1930s, two pairs of 1940s unworn Lee black denim pants, a pair of 1940s Levis blue jeans still bearing the original tags, with the highlight of the Levis being a very rare World War II era New Old Stock Levis 506 denim jacket.
Daniel Buck stated that he “has a client whose family operated a clothing store in the early part of the 20th century and the unworn/new old stock came down through that family. You just don’t find Levis of this age and this quality coming on the market.”
Decorative art offerings
This will be an eclectic auction of American and continental fine and decorative arts from clients in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maine. A few of the highlights from the American portion of the sale are two disk music boxes and two Edison cylinder record players. Along with these will be a collection of 38 copper 15 1/2” music box disks, as well as several boxes of cylinder records.
Mid-century will also be available with a Jack Cartwright modular wall unit, a Thos. Moser cherry New Century China Bed, and a collection of NASA and Cosmonaut-related items that came from the family of a gentleman who was the Director of NASA’s Public Relations Program in the 1970s-1980s.
Along with the space-related items is an interesting item that rarely comes to market as there are very few of these: a Bell Systems Model of a Telstar Communication Satellite.
Also included will be a Steuben Cluthra baluster vase.
Fine art offerings
American fine art includes a resin sculpture titled “Light Whispers” by Frederick Hart, two oils on canvas by Robert William Vonnoh, a California landscape by Maurice Braun, and an oil titled “Chicken Little” by Alfredo Rodriguez, among other works.

Historical and continental lots
The highlight for Civil War collectors will be a rare, large 34-star flag with an unusual star pattern and measures 5’ 4 1/2” x 10’ 7”. This is one of the nicest Civil War flags Daniel Buck Auctions has seen come on the market in a number of years and is in very nice condition overall.
Some of the highlights of the continental items include a French bronze ormolu Monbro Fils mantle clock, a rare large Limoges jardinière on stand,a French bronze ormolu and porcelain garniture set, and a large Capo-di-Monte figural group depicting The Last Supper.
