Elton’s Tiffany Treasure Shines Bright at Glasgow Auction
A rare Tiffany lamp from Sir Elton John’s personal collection fetches over £22,000, illuminating the intersection of art, design, and pop culture.
The Rocket Man’s lighting taste is as fabulous as his fashion.
At a recent auction in Glasgow, a rare Tiffany Studios lamp—once owned by Sir Elton John—sold for a glowing £22,320 (about $27,700). The auction, handled by McTear’s Auctioneers, offered a spotlight-worthy moment for fans of antique lighting and pop royalty.
The lamp, believed to date between 1899 and 1920, features a bronze base and a leaded glass shade of striking greens and gold in Tiffany’s signature stylized floral pattern. The shade bears the classic Tiffany Studios New York label, confirming its prestigious pedigree.
While Elton John might be best known for his stage costumes and sunglasses collection, his eye for fine design extended well beyond the piano bench. According to the auction house, this Tiffany piece was one of several decorative treasures from his former home, recently sold off as part of his downsizing efforts following the sale of his longtime Atlanta residence.
The lamp’s sale price exceeded estimates, powered by its exquisite craftsmanship and a backstory tied to one of pop music’s greatest icons. For collectors, it was the ultimate two-for-one: the timeless appeal of Tiffany and the glittering provenance of Elton John.
This isn’t the first time Sir Elton’s antiques and décor have made headlines—and if this glowing result is any indication, it won’t be the last.
