Blown, Victorian, Continental glass set to shine

An array of 18th and 19th century glass, including Continental glass such as Bohemian glass, Victorian opalescent will come before bidders Jan. 27-28, during Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates' annual winter glass and lighting auction.

MT. CRAWFORD, Va. — Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates’ annual winter glass and lighting auction will offer an important and varied selection of 18th to 20th century American and European wares, such as Victorian and Continental glass, in two sessions.

Session one commences Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m. Eastern and will include more than 800 lots of 18th and 19th century glass and lighting. These items hail from the collections of the late Dexter Charles Wright of Ponte Vedra, Florida, the late Kenneth W. Lyon of Fisher’s Hill, Virginia, and Charlotte and Louis Fischer of Lynchburg, Virginia.

European Offerings To Include Bohemian Continental Glass

The American glass category features a fine selection of 19th century blown wares; a collection of early pressed open salts; colored Sandwich glass vases and candlesticks; lighting from the whale oil era to early kerosene periods ­— including rare cut overlay examples; bottles and flasks; and antique paperweights; flint early American pattern glass. European glass is highlighted by a fine collection of 18th century English wine glasses; a varied selection of 18th & 19th century Continental glass, including Bohemian; fine cut overlay wares; and a collection of Overshot glass with applied snakes.

Session two begins at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Saturday, Jan. 28 and will comprise over 1,000 lots of 19th and 20th century glass and lighting. Featured will be the Ellen O’Brien studio glass collection of Sarasota, Florida, including more than 300 paperweights, as well as sculpture and other forms by many important artists such as Delmo Tarsitano, David Graeber, Rick Ayotte, Sonja Blomdahl, Laura Donefer, Benjamin Moore, Charles Lotton, Richard Satava, Robert Mickelsen, Emma Varga, Ann Wolff, Steven Weinberg, Christopher Ries, and Michael Taylor. In addition, outstanding art glass including fine Durand and Steuben; rare Victorian opalescent glass and lighting including barber bottles; other Victorian glass of all types; cut glass; and non-flint EAPG will be offered.
