Estate, collections auction offers more than 50 fine canes June 3

Among the items in Americana Auctions June 3 estates auction is an extensive collection of canes, as well as several examples of silver decorative art.

REHOBOTH, Mass. – Americana Auctions of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, is presenting a fine collections and diverse estates auction June 3, 2018, beginning at 11 a.m. at the firm’s gallery located at 380 Winthrop Street (Rt. 44). Included is a fine selection of fresh merchandise featuring a lifelong collection of canes.

Antique canes include, but are not limited to, a rare gambler’s cane, a Henry Clay presentation cane, system canes including sword/gun/cannon examples, ivory and whale bone, and silver jeweled canes.

Also offered are nautical items. This list includes scrimshaw, fine telescopes and, a group of 19th century Bowie knives and swords. In addition, bidders will see American 18th and 19th century long arm firearms. The offerings include tiger maple Kentucky rifles. The militaria category includes Civil War Confederate uniforms.

The furniture category offers period pieces in old paint, early French provincial, several Danish Modern examples by Hans Wegner, and a pair of Arne Norell Inca rosewood lounge chairs among others.

Rose pattern (143 pieces). Also a Kalo Shop & French eagle teapot, silver trophies, gold Masonic medals, Ottoman Empire medal, and gold watches.

Items of special interest include a 7-foot-tall stained and leaded glass window of a girl in a garden with a peacock, an 1852 Charles Copley floor globe, a working Keystone 5-cent slot machine, an antique carousel horse with original paint, and signed documents including examples signed by John Hancock.

The selection of early photographs include a Cherokee woman, a Confederate soldier, and the staff of Princeton College.

Abstract Art and More

Artwork includes an important Lucio Fontana abstract oil painting, a small Jules Dupre landscape, an illustration of a couple in a rowboat by Harry Anderson, a Thomas Moran oil of Venetian boats, and Frederic Edwin Church’s “Heart of the Andes” oil painting. A bronze nude sculpture titled “The Star” by Harriet Frismuth made by the Gorham Foundry is also up for bid.

The sale features many do-not-miss lighting devices. Among the lots is a Handel leaded table lamp. In addition, there is a Tiffany Studios “Zodiac” desk lamp. Plus, a Pairpoint Director style silver and glass lamp.
