Scarce Kosmic regulator clock may strike $35,000

PITTSFIELD, Mass. - The Nov. 11 Antiques, Clocks & Fine Art Auction at Fontaine’s Auction Gallery will feature 300 lots. Among the features is a Kosmic regulator clock.

An expected star of the furniture category is a 12-piece. R.J. Horner carved oak Man Of The Mountain dining room set. The 60-inch dining room table has a filigree carved apron with winged horses and mythical faces (estimate $50,000-$75,000). Keeping with the ‘mountain man’ theme, also coming before bidders is a signed “R. J. Horner” carved mahogany Mountain Man three-door bookcase with carved frieze. It is expected to bring $12,000 to $15,000.

Among the lighting offerings are 19th and 20th-century examples from Tiffany Studios, Duffner & Kimberly, and Handel, to name a few. The expected top lot of the lighting category is a signed “Tiffany Studios, New York, 1063” Tiffany Studios Dore 12-Light Lily Lamp, with an estimate of$20,000 to $30,000.

An additional main attraction of this auction are clocks, including a complete set of Howard No. 70 wall clocks. The selection of clocks features:

• Scarce E. Howard No. 38 Wall Regulator Clock ($40,000-$60,000).

— E. Howard Astronomical No. 74 Gravity Escapement Regulator Clock ($35,000-$50,000).

• One of only six known examples of an E. Howard No. 70 “Kosmic” Wall Regulator Clock, accompanied by a copy of the Kosmic Patent of 1885, will come to auction with an estimate of $25,000 to $35,000.
